THIS MONTH'S FEATURE STORY:

Broughtonia sanguinea - Aussie Born Hybrids. Dr. Des Neuendorff writes of his hybridizing program with some 24 colour photos of his babies. There are some stunning colours, including canary yellow, and Hknsa. Rest in Peace 'Anzac' HCC/AOS, a beautiful yellow with red edging and base of lip features on our cover.

Orchids Australia looks back - and forward - Colin Hamilton reviews the developments over the last year, and some plans for the future.

Dendrobium tetragonum. Gary Knight has selected this native species for this issue and features four colour photos of varieties of this easy to grow orchid.

Orchids Australia Visits San Francisco's Orchid Garage Sale. We report of the annual OrchidMania event staged in San Francisco each Mothers' Day. OrchidMania raises money for various charities including AIDS awareness.

Orange Flowered Ascocentrum species. Jim Cootes and Eric Chrtisenson give us the good oil on differences between the orange flowered species of Asctm. miniatum, aurantiacum and garayi. They make a plea for orchid growers to study their plants/flowers and put that correct name to them. Again, good colour photos to help identify them.

Selected Species - Cyrtorchis arcuata. Peter Taylor has selected this unusual small orchid as his feature for this issue.

Book Review - Handbook of Pests and Diseases - Don Gallagher reviews this recent update on a very popular publication from the American Orchid Society Inc.

RHS Orchid Registration System CD-ROM to be reissued. Ian Melrose, one of the key people in the Orchid Database Company Pte. Ltd, has good news for all those who have purchased Disc 1 - it is being reissued free of charge to current subscribers. The reissue will overcome problems associated with Windows 95 and certain dual speed CR-ROM drives, as well as other improvements in performance.

Dendrobium Clonal Culture. Brian Kwan describes his methodology for cloning of Australian native dendrobiums.

Conferences, Shows & Seminars. This is a regular feature of mainly international events for 1996 and 1997. Intending travellers have access to advance information to help plan their travels.

An Introduction to the Genus Stanhopea -A Photographic Essay. Roger Kramer concludes this mammoth series which we published over five issues this year. The topic this time is 'natural hybrids'. Excellent colour photos as usual.

The Cymbidium Page - Ploidy. Julian Coker contributes an article on cymbidiums in each issue and this time his subject is the interesting question of Ploidy. What does it mean?

Registrar General's Page - Award of Merit. A.O.C.'s Registrar General Colin Jennings, shows us some of the more recent AM's to be awarded in Australia.

Orchids of Canada's National Capital Region. Marilyn Light of the University of Ottawa, takes us on a stroll around the national capital looking at the variety of terrestrial orchids to be found there. Good colour photos too.

Orchid Show - Noumea Style. Colin Hamilton visits Noumea, New Caledonia, in the south Pacific, for their Exposition internationale d'orchidees. Held in October (spring), the show is not large in size but is probably the richest orchid show in the southern hemisphere. Prize money is 1 million CFP (Pacific French Francs) or approx. AUD $165,000, and is held every two years.
